MARY AND THE ANGEL
Luke 1:26-38 paraphrase

God sent Gabriel, the angel,
To a city in Galilee called Nazareth'
To a virgin, Mary, engaged to a man;
A descendant of David named Joseph.
And coming in he said to her,
"Hail, O woman richly blessed
You are blessed among women,
For the Lord is with you,
The Lord is with you."

Greatly troubled was she,
And kept pondering what kind of greeting this might be.
"Fear not," he said unto her,
"For with God you have found favor.
And you will conceive and bear a son,
And you shall name Him Jesus.
He will be great and will be called
The Son of the Most High.

And the Lord God will give Him His father David's throne
O"er the house of Jacob He will reign
His kingdom will have no end, no end.

Mary said, "How can this be, since I am a virgin?"
He said, "The Spirit shall come upon you,
And the power of the Most High will overshadow you.
The holy offspring, for that reason,
Shall be called the son of God.
And your barren relative Elizabeth also has conceived,
For all is possible with God.

Before he departed from her,
Mary said, "Behold the bondslave of the Lord;
Be it done to me according to your word."
For nothing is impossible with God.
